PHILOSOPHY OF MIND

WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY?
Greek origin = love of wisdom
Phil (philos) = love
Soph (sophia) = wise
The Love of Wisdom
Combines the cognitive and the emotional dimensions of our mind – seeking answers to BIG questions, ones that often have more than one possible answer, or no clear answer at all

WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY OF MIND?
The philosophy of mind is concerned with the problems associated with the functioning of the mind or brain. Such problems can take on many different aspects, for instance:
= Is the mind separate from the brain, or a by-product of it?
= Is there such a thing as a permanent self or soul?
= What is consciousness?
= Is artificial intelligence possible?

What are the two types of reasoning uses in philosophy?
The two type of reasoning used in philosophy is deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. Deductive reasoning is a top-down approach while inductive reasoning is a bottom-up approach. Deductive reasoning is the application of rules or logic to statements about the world. For example, UNIMAS students sleep six hours every night; Azura is a UNIMAS student, therefore, Azura sleeps six hours every night. On the other hand, inductive reasoning draws conclusions based on commonalities observed in specific instances. For example, Koko, the Persian cat, has four legs. Dani, the Siamese cat, has four legs. Therefore, all cats have four
legs.

2. What is determinism and free will
Philosophers also ask questions about determinism and free will or the freedom of choice. According to philosophers who theorize on determinism, all events in the world are the result of some previous event, or events. All of reality is already in a sense pre-determined or pre-existent and, therefore, nothing new can come into existence. Two examples of determinism is the law of nature and genetic inheritance. Determinism suggests that human freedom is simply an illusion because all of reality has already been predetermined. On the other hand, free will refers to the freedom that humans possess in choosing. Example to study or to go shopping. Conscious human beings are free to make genuinely undetermined choices in circumstances where we are genuinely able to do so, and where we so freely, or unconstrainedly, choose to do so.

3. What is dualism?
Dualism refers to the theory that the mind (non-physical or mental) and the body (physical) are not one but two separate entities. These two entities are radically different kinds of things. The mind is capable of thinking while the body is not. They can only interact with each other but they are not one. Rene Descartes reasoned the fact that the human soul does not perish with the body and that God exists. Dualism is upheld by major religions in the world because these major religions believe that the soul is immortal.
LEARNING REFLECTIONS
In this unit, Philosophy of Mind I have do a mind map that include determinism and free will, the mind body problem, philosophy and neuroscience, philosophy and linguistics, and philosophy and artificial intelligence. Next in this unit also we have include 3 questions and answers for readers and our own self to understand more about this topic. Like example, we have put question such as, what is determinism and free will, what are the two types of reasoning uses in philosophy and what is dualism.
Other than that we also have included additional resources about this topic which is Philosophy of Mind for make our viewers more understand about this unit. We have upload video and article to make sure our viewer more clearer about this topic. We hope that the videos and articles provided by us will enhance our readers' understanding of the topic of Philosophy of Mind.
The importance of this topic of philosophy of mind is that we know how the brain works. The brain works like a big computer. It processes information that it receives from the senses and body, and sends messages back to the body. But the brain can do much more than a machine can.
In this unit there are several subunits that can be used to understand a person. Among them are philosophy and neuroscience. We can learn more the structures and functions of the human brain and how they relate to the behaviours we observe in people using language, solving problems, and remembering. Meanwhile the philosophy of mind is concerned with the problems associated with the functioning of the mind or brain. We can apply this philosophy and neuroscience to better understand someone. For example, if we as human resource development, we want to choose workers, we can use this to find out their attitude or way of thinking.
In this topic we strive to provide a deeper understanding for our readers. we begin this topic with the purpose of Philosophy of mind and subunits to make it easier for readers to understand the topic. Then we add some additional resources such as video and article. Next we also put some questions to make our readers understands more about this topic.
In our opinion, we did our best for this topic as it relates to a person's daily life so it more easier for us understand about this topic and we have also made it easier for our readers to understand this topic better as we do a mind map. We will further study the topic in more detail so that we can master it and disseminate knowledge.
