Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of mind and intelligence, embracing philosophy, psychology, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, linguistics, and anthropology. Its intellectual origins are in the mid-1950s when researchers in several fields began to develop theories of mind based on complex representations and computational procedures. Its organizational origins are in the mid-1970s when the Cognitive Science Society was formed and the journal Cognitive Science began. Since then, more than one hundred universities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia have established cognitive science programs, and many others have instituted courses in cognitive science.






Cognition is defines to be the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding experience and the senses with so that definition in mind what exactly is Cognitive Science the broad interdisciplinary field that aims to understand how the mind and brain function, how does the brain store and access information, how the mind and brain related or what even exactly is the mind. Cognitive Science seeks to reverse engineer some of the most complicated and poorly understood processes that occur in all of our heads. Cognition which allows us to solve complicated problems or simply perceive the world around us the underlying mechanism behind literally everything we do. Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary scientific study of the mind in its processes. It examines the nature tasks and the functions of cognition. Cognitive scientists study intelligence and behaviour with a focus on how nervous systems represent, processes and transform information. The human brain weigh approximately 3 pounds or 1.4 kg. Although it only makes up about 2% of the total body weight of an adult human being. Brain tissue command a large amount of energy in proportion to its volume. The mind is composed approximately 100 billion neurones connected together into a neural network. Neural network are made of neurons and connection between them called axons which have synapse where the different neurone meet. Neurones generate electrical signals that travel along their axons. When a pulse of electricity reaches a junction called a synapse it causes neurotransmitter chemicals ti to be release. Which binds receptor on other cells and thereby alters their electrical activity. The property that makes neurones unique. Because the ability to send signals yo specific target cells over long distances. They send the signal by axons which is a thin protoplasmic fiber which extends from the cell body and projects usually with numerous branches to other areas. Sometimes nearby sometimes in distant parts of the brain or body. Each of the 100 billion neurones has on average 7 thousand synapse connections to other neurone. In its functioning neurone is a form of switch that is to say a cell taht is either on or off. Any given neurone has a number of inputs from other neurones. If those inputs are above a given threshold, then it is activated in fires. If the neurone is activated. It then sends out signals to other neurones that is connected to iys output then becomes the input to other neurones.
